The Krk Vela Placa webcam shows a live view of Vela Placa, the main square in the historic centre of Krk town on the island of Krk. Hosted by Tourist Board of the City of Krk.
Vela Placa has been at the centre of town life for centuries. It was probably the main square already in Roman times, it is first mentioned in documents in 1263, and in the Middle Ages it was the administrative heart of Krk, with the city hall and two loggias. The live image lets you check the atmosphere in the old town, see how busy the square is and get an idea of the weather and light before you set off for a walk through Krk.
The history around Vela Placa
One of the landmarks of the square is the Square Tower, built at the end of the 15th century and used as the city hall in the 16th century. On its wall facing the square is a clock with a 24-hour dial, first mentioned in 1538 and returned to its original place in 1995. In the middle of the square stands a hexagonal cistern crown with carved reliefs, among them the winged lion of St Mark.
