This beautiful beach in Florida has a webcam near the pier streaming live pictures of the beach end of the pier. This is quite exciting as you can see it all from the sunrise to fishing and other interesting activities that take place in and under the water in this part of Florida.
The underwater camera is to be found at the bottom of the ocean off the International Fishing Pier and is subjected to the buffeting of the sea, including storms and rain.
The City has no control over the content shown on the webcam streaming which is solely for information and entertaining the public and is not used for surveillance. Swimming diving and snorkeling are prohibited 150 feet around the pier allowing better streaming of underwater marine life activities. The Deerfield Beach live cam is a great activity for your family, join any of the three live streams to be taken from your home to amazing coastal Florida. Listen to the waves, and watch the fishermen baiting their lines from the pier. The beach is lined with palm trees and is a great place to visit on your next holiday trip to Florida.
If fishing is a hobby that you enjoy, you can watch the fishermen and women catching large mackerel, Bonita, or even sardines to take home for dinner, as there appear to be plenty of fish in the ocean. When you are watching you can see them swimming by. The history of Deerfield Beach dates back to when it was a small settlement in 1890 it was called Hillsborough, and the deer grazed along the river banks.
By the early 20th century Deerfield mainly consisted of farmers who grew fruit and vegetables and fished to survive.
During Summer Deerfield Beach has a beautiful temperature in the 80s, and in Winter around 60 degrees. The waters are crystal clear, and you get a good look at them on the web cam, this is great for the whole family as it enables you to take part of your vacation from home enjoying the views and watching the live streaming. If you are lucky you may even see a school of sharks, of course leading to the closing of the beach, and it is much safer to watch them from your own home. The Blacktip sharks migrate North for the Summer and are common in South Florida.
It is important that swimmers are kept away from the cameras which is why there is a 150 feet exclusion area around the cameras to prevent accidental or other damage from occurring. The live underwater camera is called Spinner and is located 30 feet beneath the surface of the water on a pier piling. The camera is able to show the great diversity of the reef fish, as you watch them swimming about their daily lives.
The web cam has its own online fan club that has even named some of the fish including one called King Benny. who happens to be a Blenny.
Blennies are small fish with long bodies and big eyes and a big mouth. They have long dorsal fins, and often have whiskers, and they spend most of the day on the seafloor, so the viewers can watch their various activities, feeding mainly on crustaceans.
There are larger fish Striped Bass, Bluefish and Weakfish that prey on Blennies. The blennies are solitary fish and sometimes you don’t see them because they hide in crevices. You may also see a shoal of Lookdowns, they are silvery in color with a sloping forehead and a protruding lower jaw. They can alter their silvery pigment to avoid detection providing camouflage against predators, they are very agile. They get their name from their unusual head structure. These fish inhabit the shallow coastal waters of the gulf or the sandy bottoms in the Tropical Atlantic and along the Texas Coast. They make interesting viewing for the fans on web cam who tune in every day to watch the underwater activities of the marine life.
Life under the ocean is a whole new world to many, and if you are at home in lockdown it is a good way to entertain and educate yourself.
