The Krapina prehistoric man is the first to come to mind when thinking about Krapina, a village in the heart of the Croatian Zagorje. On the nearby Hušnjak hill is one of the largest and richest sites of the Neanderthal prehistoric man in the world. In addition to the site there is a museum with a display of the evolution of man from prehistoric times until today. The old town, the Church of Sv. Katarina (St. Catherine), the Franciscan monastery with its rare collection of sacral arts and a rich library of rare books, as well as the birth house of Ljudevit Gaj, the Croatian forefather, are evidence of the rich cultural, monumental and historical heritage of this area.
