The Velika Planina webcams show the high mountain plateau above Kamnik: the upper station of the cable car from Kamniška Bistrica, the Šimnovec chairlift and Zeleni rob. Check snow, fog and the weather on the plateau before you take the cable car.
The cable car climbs to the plateau in about five minutes. From its upper station the six-seater Šimnovec chairlift, opened in 2023, takes you to the top of the ski area in another five minutes. The slopes lie between 1,412 and 1,666 m and are mostly intermediate, which has made Velika Planina a family favourite close to Ljubljana for many years.
The herdsmen’s settlement
Velika Planina is known for its herdsmen’s settlement, one of the few settlements of its size in Europe, with low huts covered in pine shingles. The herdsmen return with their cattle every June and stay until September. From the upper cable car station it is about a 30-minute walk on a gentle slope.
